I took this exam early in March and got pummeled. Planned to retake at some point, then I passed the 217 and 218 in the meantime. Because of a system problem at Prometric and a deth-flu I suffered for three days I finally got to it today. Well. It was easier than the first time but still failed. Missed by only three questions. I used a second shot voucher (remembered this time) So my next attempt should be free.
Know the following: DNS / DHCP / WINS / RRAS / Network Monitor / IPSec / Certificate Services
Study and practice a lot!

I got question about DHCP, DNS, RRAS, Routing, WINS DHCP relay, WINS proxies, Subnetting, Certificates, IPsec, NWLINK and Unix BIND in combination with DNS.
I was well prepared because of all the warnings i received from many people.
I used Transcender, Testking, cbtnugget vids , read the cramsessions once, and Vmware with 3 virtual servers. Eventually i got more practical knowledge by trying out settings. Scored 909 points on the examn, but studied like hell in less than 2 weeks.
Study and practice a lot, Good Luck!
Routing and Remote Access!!!!!

Got it second time round purely by cramming on those 2 key arias.

You would do well to be prepared when writing this exam.
Know It or Blow It

You will be hammered on how DNS, WINS, DHCP, RRAS, Routers, Relay Agents, Wins Proxies, and all types of clients interact on LANS, Multinet LANS, WANS, within the same domain, subdomains, or in seperate domains or forests. This is 85% of the exam. Know the basics of Certificate Services. Know how to subnet and supernet. And know how to troubleshoot all of the above. If all you do is read the Microsoft training materials you will fail. Some of the best material to read that really explains in detail how all of the above works are the explanations found in the Transcender exams. I highly recommend.

This was the hardest exam I've taken to date. Bombed it the first time, made it the second. Know RRAS, WINS & DHCP inside and out. INTIMATELY. To the point of being able to see the GUI in your head.
Very difficult exam.

I failed this one first time around by 2 questions (ouch!). The "randomly selected" questions the 2nd time around were definitely easier. I think that I must have received a rather difficult batch of questions the first time through. Make sure that you know DNS and how it interacts with Unix and WINS. Also know DHCP and Relay Agents. This is certainly an exam that you'll want to take some additional time to study and prepare for before going in. This exam is core for MCSE and MCDBA, as well as an elective for MCSA on the 2000 track. Good one to have under your belt. Though it is difficult, don't let that scare you away. Might take you more than one try, but is certainly do-able!
