SYNOPSIS
CompTIA’s A+ exam 220-221,
“Core Hardware,” is one of two exams required to achieve the A+ 2003 certification.
It is meant for entry-level computer technicians, such as desktop support
specialists, system administrators and junior network administrators, and has
no prerequisites. CompTIA says this exam is for a “PC service technician with
the equivalent knowledge of at least 500 hours of hands-on experience in the
lab or field.”
This exam, which is offered
in English, Japanese, French, Spanish and German, is easy. It may be taken from
Pearson Vue or Thomson Prometric. In terms of
cost: “Prices of CompTIA exams vary,
depending upon the country you are taking the test in and your membership
status.
In the US, prices range from $93 USD to $225 USD.
The passing score is 596 on
a scale of 0 to 1300. This exam is adaptive, consisting of 20 to 30 multiple
choice and multiple response questions, and has a maximum duration of 30
minutes, although “your score may be
determined before the maximum time expires and the exam may end at any time.
