SYNOPSIS CCDPvs
Cisco’s
exam 642-871, Designing Cisco Network Service Architectures (ARCH), is a core
requirement for the two-exam, and three-exam paths to the Cisco Certified Design
Professional (CCDP) certification. It is a mid level exam for IT professionals
who have the knowledge and skills necessary to troubleshoot sub-optimal
performance in a converged network environment. The candidate must hold both Cisco
Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) certifications
as prerequisites to this exam.
Cisco does not publish the
pass score for this exam which can include these types of questions: multiple-choice single answer, multiple-choice multiple
answer, drag-and-drop, fill-in-the-blank, and simulations.
Felt fairly confident before this exam, having passed BCSI and BCMSN in the last couple of weeks. Had a pile of design questions which destroyed me - 50% of the exam was to do with AVVID and the Enterprise Model (in much greater detail than Ranjbars book), plus a whole pile of drag n drops which i struggled to even partly complete. Also a few tricky ones regarding Callmanager etc..
Anyway back to the books! I probably should have done the CCDA exam firstly, i think ill prepare for it before retrying the ARCH!

Passed it but was harder than expected. Need to know ALL of the technologies covered in the Cisco Press book (VoIP, Multicast, Routing Protocols, High Availibility, etc). Gotta know everything cause they were all pretty evenly tested. Flash cards and the practice test that came with are very good tools. A lot of information from the CCNP tests carrys over into this one so dont wait too long in between the tests before you take this one.
