SYNOPSIS
The Certified Internet Webmaster’s CIW Associate is
an entry level, vendor-neutral, certification for IT professionals who have foundational
skills that include basic knowledge of Internet technologies, network
infrastructure, and Web authoring using HTML. The CIW Associate is also a
starting point for more advanced certifications, such as the CIW Professional,
and the Master CIW series.
The
CIW Associate certification emerged in 2000, with the most recent version of
the exam published in June of 2001. In terms of recertification, CIW exams may
be retired for various reasons, including release of a new exam series, changes
to related certification programs, or determination by the IT industry that a
job role has become obsolete. Once retired, the exam is no longer available at
testing centers, although in some cases candidates can still apply credit for a
retired exam version toward a multi-exam certification. CIW offers six months'
prior notice for retirement of any exam so that interested candidates have time
to prepare and take the exam while it is still available.
Job roles of those pursuing this certification
typically include: web developer, web programmer, Internet site designer, or an
Internet systems administrator.
To achieve the CIW Associate,
a candidate must pass one CIW exam. In addition, the CIW program accepts the CompTIA
i-Net+ as credit toward a CIW Associate certification.
