What you should know to pass this test:
Understand what databases and instances are, and how they are
related. Know the components of a database and what an instance is. Be able
to name all the components that make up the SGA and what each is used for, as
well as all the Oracle background processes and the function each
performs.
Describe how users connect to Oracle, and the differences
between the Shared Server and Dedicated Server architectures.
Know about transactions and how you control them.
Understand the role and function of the Data Dictionary. Know
where it resides, and how you create it. Be familiar with major dictionary
tables and views. You’ll face questions on what information you can
retrieve from various Data Dictionary objects.
Understand how to configure Oracle, the differences between
PFILEs and SPFILEs, and be familiar with common initialization parameters and
what they do.
Know about Oracle-Managed Files (OMFs), their advantages and
when you should use them. Know how to enable OMFs and the configuration
parameters that dictate OMF file locations.
Understand the two major kinds of authentication and how to
set up each.
Know how to create a database.
Be familiar with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and its
components.
Understand the roles and functions of control files, redo log
files, and archived log files. Understand how they are named and located on
disk, and how to create, alter, and remove them.
Understand the functions of the various database storage
objects: tablespaces, datafiles, segments, extents, blocks, and rows.
Know about the different kinds of tables and indexes, and how
to create and manage them. Understand partitioned tables and constraints.
Know how to create and manage user accounts, roles,
privileges, and Oracle’s security system. Understand what globalization
is and how to manage it.
