EXAMS: STUDY TIPS

Relates to: MCSE 2000
Pay attention to protocols and how they are used. Some of the questions will give you a
diagram of a VPN connection and ask you what protocols are used in the various stages of
the communication link.
Pay attention to the different types of security providers, like
a Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC). Know when to use an Enterprise Certificate
Authority or when to use a stand-alone Certificate Authority. In this case, the question
will refer to a particular type of network, with particular characteristics, and the
selections will revolve around which CA you would use.
Know which port numbers would have to be opened in a firewall for various scenarios,
usually revolving around Virtual Private Networks.
When you take the exam, be sure to ask for plenty of scratch paper and take notes.
You will be presented several case studies, and each case study will have lots of
information associated with it. It is relatively easy to keep the information straight
for the first case study, but by the time you have read the third or fourth, the
information tends to begin to flow together and get confused. Write it down to keep it straight.
Be sure to read all of the case study before proceeding with the questions. There may
be a one-liner on another tab that may affect your answer.
Make sure when you answer the question, you use the information provided in the case study
for that particular batch of questions. Sometimes, there may be two case studies about
companies with the same or similar names. Use just the current set of information.
